| ... looking for the Turtles and Turbos?
You have found us! |
|
We have re-organized as a new group and have affiliated our new organization, St. Louis Recreational Cyclists, with League of American Bicyclists.
We are still the same people who were the Turtles and Turbos.
Why Did We Do This?
Our previous sponsor, Hostelling International, is no longer sponsoring bike rides.
- We wanted to reclaim some of what we had under their sponsorship and stay together as a group.
- We wanted to continue to have rides, primarily on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from March through November.
- We wanted to post our rides on a website so new riders can find us.
- We wanted our ride leaders to be insured against potential legal liability suits.
What Will Be Different?
"... and we will still do lunch!"

|
- Since there are no paid employees, we will be dependent to a greater extent on volunteer efforts.
- Volunteers will be needed to lead rides, help maintain the website, and deal with a few administrative tasks.
- We will be charging dues and tracking our expenses. Dues will be $5 per year -- what a bargain -- to cover insurance costs and the cost of having a website.
- At this time, no provision has been made to continue the 5*Century Rides or Moonlight Ramble as was done under Hostelling International sponsorship.
Instead we will be affiliates of League of American Bicyclists (LAB)
- We will fill out a membership application and a waiver once per year. We will keep our own records of who our members are including emergency contact information.

What Can You Do To Help?
Join STLRC, then volunteer to lead a ride by:
- Picking a date and a route.
- You might look through our previous rides at the left of this page to find a similar ride to what you have in mind.
- If you have a previous ride, you can copy and paste it into an email or some other editor. Change it as needed.
- Send your ride description, following the format of other listed rides, to rides@stlrc.org.
Why Ride With Us? |
|
How Often Do We Ride? |
- To have fun and find friendship
- To ride fun routes in the St. Louis area
- To find rides that meet your riding level
- To learn helpful hints for riding better.
- To have help in changing a flat.
(Do bring your own tubes/tools.)
- To enjoy delicious lunches during or after rides. (Bring money)
|
|
In our new organization, we will have rides whenever someone wants to lead one.
On a given Tuesday or Thursday morning, there may be:
- No scheduled ride,
- One scheduled ride which you can decide to join or not,
- More than one scheduled ride, one may be far away and one closer to you, or
- The ride difficulty may be to your liking or not.
- We hope to have a number of rides during the riding season you will find enjoyable.
|
If you would like to participate in rides like ours, we welcome you to join us.

STLRC News
A Special Ride
We have planned a two day ride from Columbia, Illinois down to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri and back Wednesday, May 9 through Thursday, May 10, 2012.
If this sounds like something you would like to try, please check the May schedule. On the listing for the Ste. Genevieve ride you find
a link to detailed ride info and cue sheets down to and back from Ste. Genevieve. This is a ride we have done in years past and it has always been
an enjoyable and easy flat ride down to Ste. Gen and back with cycling friends.
STLRC has been in operation for a couple of months. We now have almost 120 members and have sponsored many rides.
A feature of this website is the Members Area -- see the left-hand panel.
If you are a member and need the security information to get into the member area,
send an email to webmaster@stlrc.org
REMEMBER: YOU TOO CAN LEAD A RIDE!
